When Art Becomes Healing Through the Dark Night of the Soul
This post traces the origin of my creative life through a Dark Night of the Soul. After the sudden death of my eldest brother triggered delayed-onset PTSD rooted in childhood trauma, art became the place where meaning could still move when belief systems collapsed. Beginning with my first painting, Journey to the Lighthouse: Dark Night of the Soul, I reflect on making art in sleepless hours of heartbreak, on creativity as collaboration and divine union with my Great Creator, and on how presence, intuition, and serious play allowed trauma to find expression, freedom, and integration. This is a story of artmaking as a spiritual connection that enables transcendence. When we open ourselves to our creativity, we open ourselves to the Creator's creativity within us and our lives.
